General Bill Looney

General William R. "Bill" Looney III, based in Texas, retired from the United States Air Force as a Four-Star General after a distinguished 40-year career. Known for his extensive experience in leadership, he holds the record for commanding more organizations than any other Air Force general, both in times of peace and conflict. His leadership spanned a diverse range of Air Force activities including operations, training, education, and acquisitions, overseeing up to 100,000 personnel.

Throughout his career, Looney exemplified practical leadership, managing complex situations and diverse teams. He commanded the Air Force Academy Cadet Wing, fighter squadrons, two fighter wings, an academic institution, a warfare center, a numbered air force, two acquisition centers, and a major command. His deep involvement in Air Force space operations and acquisition, managing budgets exceeding $25 billion annually, highlights his capability in high-stakes environments. Looney's approach always resulted in elevated performance and productivity under his leadership.

Since retiring, Looney has become a sought-after consultant and speaker, sharing his insights on leadership with Fortune 500 companies, various organizations, and academic institutions. Additionally, he contributes his expertise by serving on several boards and teaching at two universities.

Looney graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1972 and is a highly decorated officer with more than 4,200 flying hours, including 62 in combat and 2,500 in the F15 Eagle. His final command was at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, where he currently resides with his wife, Marilyn, and enjoys spending time with their family, including two daughters and two grandchildren. His two sons-in-law, both Air Force officers and pilots, continue the legacy of service.
