Guy Doud

Guy Doud grew up in Staples, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school. He then graduated summa cum laude from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1975. After college, Doud moved to Brainerd, Minnesota, where he has been employed by the Brainerd School District as a language arts teacher.

As a high school language arts teacher in Brainerd, Doud received the highest award that the education profession offers: he was chosen from more than two and one-half million teachers as the 1986 National Teacher of the Year for the United States of America, and was honored at a ceremony at the White House by then President Ronald Reagan. This recognition thrust Doud into the national spotlight and solidified his role as a mentor and educator beyond the classroom.

In addition to his teaching career, Doud has been an influential speaker and author for over 25 years. His topics often include attitude, motivation, inspiration, empowerment, overcoming adversity, and faith/religion, reflecting his deep commitment to these areas. He has delivered engaging talks filled with personal stories, warmth, and humor to diverse audiences, ranging from schoolchildren and teachers to corporate executives. His speeches have been described as life-changing, with Doud addressing significant issues facing businesses, schools, and communities with sensitivity and compassion.

Guy Doud has authored several best-selling books, including "Molder of Dreams," "Stuff You Gotta Know," and "Living Beyond Regret." His written work, like his speeches, shares stories of influential people and emphasizes the impact we have on each other's lives. He has also produced the videos "Teacher of the Year" and "Classroom of the Heart."

Doud received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Judson College in 1992. He continues to live in Baxter, Minnesota, and remains dedicated to his students and his speaking engagements, which include topics on character education and strategies to combat bullying.
