Jacob Helberg

Jacob Helberg is an American author and technology advisor, currently serving as a commissioner for the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. In this role, he provides insights on US-China relations and the national security implications of Chinese-developed web apps like TikTok. Additionally, Helberg advises Alex Karp, the CEO of Palantir Technologies, on strategic matters. He played a significant role in the 2024 passage of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which mandated the sale or ban of TikTok.

Helberg is the founder of the Hill and Valley Forum, a collective of American venture capitalists and lawmakers who are focused on China's impact on the American technology industry. In 2021, Simon & Schuster published his book "The Wires of War: Technology and the Global Struggle for Power", solidifying his position as a leading voice in this sphere. From 2016 to 2020, he led Google’s internal global product policy efforts to counteract disinformation and foreign interference, demonstrating a deep understanding of the interplay between technology and geopolitics.

In addition to his extensive experience in the tech industry, Helberg also serves as a senior adviser at the Stanford University Center on Geopolitics and Technology and an adjunct fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He co-chairs the Brookings Institution China Strategy Initiative and has made significant investments as an angel investor. Helberg holds a Master of Science in cybersecurity risk and strategy from New York University, further underlining his expertise in the field of technology and security.
