James Horowitz Biography
James Horowitz is founder, president and CEO of Jazz Aspen Snowmass. Under his leadership, JAS has progressed from a single, three-day event with a budget of $250,000 to a year-round presenting organization with an annual budget of more than $6 million, including a sister festival in Sonoma, California. The organization has contributed over $5.5 million to its music education programs since 1996. JAS presents two major festivals in June and September; the all-scholarship JAS Academy for gifted young professional students/artists; a free outdoor summer music series; a winter jazz series, Downstairs at the Nell; and a series of programs for students in regional public schools, including professional residencies, instrument and ticket donations, and tickets for teachers. Horowitz also helped initiate the first-ever jazz concerts produced in association with the Aspen Music Festival and School.
