Jan Crawford Greenburg

Jan Crawford is the Chief Legal Correspondent for CBS News and provides legal analysis across various platforms. Crawford has secured notable interviews with Supreme Court Justices including Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., and Justice John Paul Stevens. In a significant television interview, Chief Justice Roberts shared insights into the court, his views on the law, and life since taking office. Crawford also conducted the first network television interview with 86-year-old Justice John Paul Stevens, who reflected on his memories of the man who appointed him to the Supreme Court in 1975, former President Gerald R. Ford.

Crawford's book "Supreme Conflict: The Inside Story of the Struggle for Control of the United States Supreme Court", published in January 2007 by Penguin Press, is a detailed account of the Supreme Court confirmation battles and the efforts to shift the Court in a more conservative direction. The work has been recognized as a New York Times best-seller and offers exclusive insights and high-level sources within the White House, Justice Department, and Capitol Hill.

Before her current role at CBS News, Crawford was the national legal affairs reporter for the Chicago Tribune and the Supreme Court correspondent for "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" on PBS. She also served as a legal analyst for CBS's "Evening News" and "Face the Nation". Her tenure in journalism began at the Chicago Tribune in 1994, where she covered the Supreme Court, national legal issues, and provided live, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito. Crawford has also taught journalism at American University and frequently speaks about the Supreme Court at universities, law schools, legal organizations, and civic groups across the country.

A graduate from the University of Alabama, Crawford is a member of the New York bar. She is married to Douglas Greenburg, an attorney, and they have four children. The family resides in Washington, D.C.
