A mechanical engineer by training, Wurzbacher leveraged the insights and expertise gained during his doctoral studies to co-found Climeworks with his colleague Christoph Gebald in 2009. Their shared vision was to create scalable and effective solutions for removing CO2 directly from the atmosphere, addressing the urgent need for climate action.
Under Wurzbacher's leadership, Climeworks has achieved significant milestones, including the development of Orca, the world's first large-scale carbon dioxide removal plant, located in Iceland.
