Jay Schroeder

Jay Schroeder, a former NFL quarterback, had an 11-year career in the league, retiring in 1994. Despite starting only one college game at UCLA in 1980, Schroeder was chosen in the 3rd round of the NFL draft in 1984 by the Washington Redskins. His first NFL game was in 1985, stepping in after Joe Theisman's injury during a game against the New York Giants. The following year, Schroeder threw for over 4,000 yards and was selected for the Pro Bowl. He was a key player in 10 league games for the 1987 Super Bowl Champion Redskins.

In 1988, Schroeder was traded to the Los Angeles Raiders, and played there for five years. He later joined the Cincinnati Bengals in 1993 and the Arizona Cardinals in 1994, before retiring with more than 20,000 passing yards, over 100 touchdown passes, and a .648 career winning percentage. Throughout his NFL tenure, Schroeder faced many challenges, maintaining his faith as a central pillar of his strength, especially during the time when his son, C.J., was diagnosed and healed from a brain tumor.

Now, Schroeder and his wife Debbie, to whom he has been married for over 30 years, live in St. George, Utah. They have three children and four grandchildren. His son, Brian, is involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in San Diego. Schroeder is deeply committed to his family and speaks at various venues about family values, leadership, and the integration of faith in everyday life. He has been involved with many Christian and charitable organizations, including Pro-Athletes Outreach and Focus on the Family.

Currently, Schroeder is the director of football operations and head coach at Awaken Christian Academy in Las Vegas, where he continues to influence young athletes. He regularly speaks at schools, churches, and events related to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Schroeder also shares his insights on leadership and teamwork in his keynote program titled "Leadership and Teamwork," drawing on his extensive experience in professional sports.
