Jed Hoyer

Jed Hoyer is the President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs, overseeing all aspects of the team's baseball operations. Known for his strategic acumen and collaborative approach, Hoyer has played a crucial role in building competitive teams throughout his career, particularly with the Cubs' transformation into a championship-winning organization.

Hoyer's career gained momentum with the Red Sox, where he worked closely with General Manager Theo Epstein. He contributed significantly to building the 2004 and 2007 Red Sox teams that ended Boston’s World Series drought and brought multiple championships to the franchise. In 2005, he was briefly named co-General Manager when Epstein left the organization.

Hoyer left Boston in 2009 to become General Manager of the San Diego Padres, working alongside CEO Jeff Moorad. During his tenure, the Padres improved their farm system and were surprisingly competitive, narrowly missing the playoffs in 2010 with 90 wins. Hoyer’s emphasis on scouting and development would serve as a foundation for the Padres’ later success.

In 2011, Hoyer reunited with Theo Epstein, joining the Chicago Cubs as Executive Vice President and General Manager. Together, they rebuilt the Cubs from a struggling franchise into a powerhouse, focusing on player development and data-driven strategies. Their efforts culminated in 2016, when the Cubs won the World Series, breaking a 108-year drought and cementing their place in baseball history.

Following Epstein's departure in 2020, Hoyer was promoted to President of Baseball Operations. Hoyer has focused on balancing the Cubs' long-term sustainability with competitiveness, making challenging decisions like trading stars (e.g., Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javier Báez) to build a new core.

Hoyer is known for his calm demeanor, strategic foresight, and team-first philosophy. He values collaboration within the front office and has emphasized sustainable competitiveness by blending young talent with strategic free-agent acquisitions.
