Jimmy Spencer Biography
After considerable success on the late model and modified circuits of the Northeast in the 1970's and 1980's, Spencer moved to the Busch Series in 1989, and Winston Cup in 1990.Spencer won two Winston Cup races while driving for Junior Johnson in 1994. These two victories, both scored in July 1994, remain his only Cup wins.Spencer is one of the few drivers to have won a race in all three of NASCAR's top series: Nextel Cup, the Busch Series, and the Craftsman Truck Series.
Nicknamed "Mr. Excitement" for his aggressive driving style, Spencer is probably best known for series of altercations with Kurt Busch, including a 2003 post-race incident at Michigan International Speedway in which Spencer rammed Busch's car and then repeatedly punched Busch.Spencer has also made news recently when he was arrested for interfering with North Carolina police who were attempting to serve a warrant on his son Johnathan.
Jimmy Spencer's recent troubles have left him without a full-time Nextel Cup ride, and he has been relegated to driving the Ultra Motorsports #2 Dodge in the Craftsman Truck Series.Jimmy Spencer is also the name of a professional football player who has played for the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos.
