Jorge Guzman Biography
Mexican-born chef Jorge Guzmán is a two-time James Beard Award finalist whose culinary journey began as a busboy. He is the chef-owner of Petite León, a three-star restaurant in Minneapolis, which earned a spot on the New York Times list of 50 Best Restaurants in 2022. He is also the founder of Chilango, a Mex Tex restaurant, also in Minneapolis, and the executive chef and a partner of Sueño in Dayton, Ohio.
Guzmán has garnered multiple accolades for his culinary skills, which are distinguished by his innovative fusion of northern cuisine with Yucatan flavors. In addition to his James Beard nominations, he has been featured in TIME magazine and on Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives."
After earning a degree from Drake University, Guzmán attended and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. He subsequently moved to Minneapolis, where he held notable positions at Tejas Restaurant, Corner Table, and Solera Restaurant before becoming Executive Chef at Surly Brewing Co.. Under his leadership, Surly earned a coveted spot on Food & Wine’s 2016 Restaurants of the Year list.
