Kate Carruthers

Kate Carruthers is a technologist, marketer, entrepreneur, and educator who blogs at katecarruthers.com.

Currently, Kate is Chief Data & Insights Officer for UNSW Sydney, and is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science & Engineering at UNSW Sydney. She is a member of the NSW Government Data Analytics Centre Advisory Board and the Infrastructure NSW Technology Advisory Board.

Kate is a Certified Information Security Manager and is currently undertaking postgraduate studies in cybersecurity.

She is a co-founder of several startups, including Social Innovation Sydney, MooresCloud, and IoTM.

She has extensive experience in senior executive roles, working for diverse organizations such as Citibank, General Electric, AMP, Westfield (now Scentre Group), and NSW Treasury. Kate has significant experience in the delivery of digital, data and change projects across organizations of various sizes.

Previously Kate lectured in postgraduate business and accounting at Macquarie University and taught TAFE level courses in business and management in the NSW Department of Finance & Services.

Kate is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, and was a member of the Advisory Board for the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Wollongong for a number of years before joining UNSW Sydney, and she was a member of the Telstra Industry Advisory Board.

Over the past few years, Kate has been working on the frontlines of the intersection between data and cybersecurity.
