Kate Schatz

Kate Schatz is the New York Times bestselling author of "Rad American Women A-Z" and "Rad Women Worldwide," as well as "My Rad Life: A Journal" and "Rid of Me: A Story". She is the co-founder of Solidarity Sundays, a nationwide network of feminist activist groups, which she co-led from 2015-2019. Schatz’s books have sold over 300,000 copies and been translated into four languages. Her collaboration with W. Kamau Bell, "Do the Work: An Anti-Racist Activity Book," further exemplifies her commitment to social justice education.

Schatz has been featured in a wide range of media outlets including Buzzfeed, LENNY, Oxford American, and the San Francisco Chronicle. She has also appeared on television and radio shows such as Conan, MSNBC, NPR, and WNYC. As a public speaker, Schatz has engaged audiences at ComicCon, the United Nation’s GirlUp! Summit, American Library Association, and events hosted by major organizations like Facebook, Apple, Spotify, and Pixar. Her talks and interactive workshops are known for their insightful discussion on topics like feminism, racial justice, gender equity, and LGBTQ+ rights.

Her book of fiction, "Rid of Me: A Story," was published in 2006 as part of the acclaimed 33 1/3 series. Schatz's work has been published in various respected publications, and her short story “Folsom, Survivor” was recognized in Best American Short Stories 2011. She previously chaired the School of Literary Arts at Oakland School for the Arts, teaching fiction, poetry, and journalism to 9th-12th graders, and has taught at institutions including UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State, and Rhode Island College. She holds an MFA in Fiction from Brown University, and a double BA in Women’s Studies/Creative Writing from UC Santa Cruz. Schatz continues to focus on amplifying radical histories and highlighting marginalized people who have significantly contributed to American society.
