Krista Terrell

Krista Terrell is an intentional, proactive, thoughtful, consistent, disciplined, focused, ethical, and proven results-driven leader with in-depth knowledge of the nonprofit arts and culture sector for over 20 years.

Terrell is a relationship builder across diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders and partners including public and private donors, elected officials, corporate and community leaders, team members and members of the media.

Terrell was chosen by the Arts & Science Council (ASC) Board of Directors to serve as Acting President and later President to lead during a time of organizational change. Right-sized the organization and subleased office resulting in an 87% recovery rate over 8 years. Secured public and private funding that led to $1.7m investment in creative individuals, a first in the organization’s history. Restored funding opportunity for cultural education experiences in public, charter and private schools that align with the N.C. state standards. Serve as local, state, and national liaison.

Terrell was promoted by ASC President to join the Leadership Team as Vice President of Marketing & Communications and provided strategic public relations/communications counsel in the areas of community partnerships, sponsorships, grant making, public art, cultural education, advocacy, and philanthropy. Planned, executed, and evaluated community events and branding activities including Culture Feast and Connect with Culture Days that serve 700 to 11,000-plus residents/visitors. Created and executed advocacy efforts by mobilizing individuals to favorably influence elected officials on the local, state and federal level with an emphasis on funding for arts and culture. Served as lead editor of ASC’s inaugural Cultural Equity Report published in February 2021.

Terrell was elevated by Vice President of Marketing & Communications to Communications Director to create and build engagement with various stakeholders; recruited to ASC based on pervious working relationship. Established and maintained relationships with members of the media on the local, regional, and national level and earned placements ranging from the Charlotte Business Journal, UNC-TV to The New York Times and The Chronicle of Philanthropy. Launched CharlotteCultureGuide.com, a consumer platform dedicated to building participation in the cultural sector, increasing local unique visits by 147%.
