Lecrae

Lecrae Devaughn Moore, mononymously known as Lecrae, is a Christian hip-hop recording artist, songwriter, record producer, and actor. He is the president, co-owner, and co-founder of the independent record label Reach Records, and has significantly influenced both the music industry and community development through his work.

Lecrae has often emphasized that while his music reflects his Christian faith, it should fundamentally be recognized as hip-hop. He has sold more than 3 million copies across his discography, which features a blend of spiritual and secular themes, particularly evident in his collaborative project with Zaytoven, "Let The Trap Say Amen."

His debut recording, "Real Talk," was released in 2004 through Reach Records. By his third solo album, "Rebel," released in 2008, he achieved a milestone by being the first Christian hip-hop album to reach #1 on the Billboard Gospel chart. His breakthrough into mainstream hip-hop was marked by his first mixtape, "Church Clothes," released on May 10, 2012, and hosted by DJ Don Cannon, which rapidly gained over 100,000 downloads in less than 48 hours.

Lecrae's sixth studio album, "Gravity," released on September 4, 2012, was lauded by Rapzilla and Atlanta Daily World as the most important album in Christian hip-hop history. It debuted as the best-selling album overall in the iTunes Store, #3 on the Billboard 200, and secured a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. His next album, "Anomaly," released on September 9, 2014, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, marking the first album to top both the Billboard 200 and the Gospel chart simultaneously.

On June 22, 2018, Lecrae released "Let the Trap Say Amen," a collaborative album with Zaytoven. He has also been featured in films such as the television film A Cross to Bear and in the comedy film Believe Me, portraying Dr. Malmquist.

Beyond his music career, Lecrae is a recognized social activist and a New York Times bestselling author with titles such as "Unashamed" and "I Am Restored." He actively participates in community development, serving as an advisory board member for Peace Academy in Atlanta’s English Avenue, an area known for its challenges with drug trafficking and violent crime. His engagement extends to several major projects aimed at restoring Atlanta’s English Avenue, demonstrating his commitment to social improvement and empowerment.

In his advocacy work, Lecrae has focused on topics such as responsibility and fatherhood, and racial tension and injustice in the United States. His efforts include partnering with figures like Dwyane Wade on the multimedia initiative This Is Fatherhood, contributing to the Obama administration's Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative.
