Lee Daniels

Lee Daniels made a significant impact in the film industry with his directorial debut "Shadowboxer" in 2005. He went on to direct the critically acclaimed "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" in 2009, a film that won two Academy Awards and earned nominations for Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars. Daniels' portfolio also includes "The Butler," "The United States vs. Billie Holiday," and "The Deliverance." As a producer, he has been involved in several notable films including "Monster's Ball," "The Woodsman," "Tennessee," "Pimp," and "Concrete Cowboy."

Daniels' work in television began with the drama "Empire," which debuted in January 2015 on Fox. He co-created and co-executive produced this popular music industry-based TV series until 2020, as well as "Star" from 2016 to 2019. He also served as executive producer for "The Wonder Years" reboot. His contributions to television were recognized when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2021, Lee Daniels Entertainment extended its overall deal with 20th Television. Currently, Daniels is set to develop and direct a limited series about Sammy Davis Jr. for Hulu.

In 2004, he produced public service announcements encouraging young people of color to vote, featuring notable figures such as LL Cool J and Alicia Keys. He was honored with the amfAR Award of Courage in 2018 for his work with HIV/AIDS patients. His groundbreaking role as the first African-American director to be nominated for an Oscar by the Directors Guild of America underscores his influence and pioneering contributions to the film industry.
