Lisa Joy

Lisa Joy is an Emmy Award-nominated writer, director and producer highly regarded for her genre work across television and film. She and her husband Jonathan Nolan co-founded the production company Kilter Films in 2011. Following the company's success with Westworld, Kilter Films launched "The Peripheral," the series adaptation of William Gibson’s 2014 sci-fi thriller novel and partnered with Bethesda Game Studios to produce the critically acclaimed television series "Fallout," based on the worldwide best-selling video game franchise. Joy produced the series, which received a 2024 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.

Joy is the co-creator, co-showrunner, executive producer and episodic director of HBO's "Westworld," which aired its fourth season in 2022. The show has amassed 54 Emmy nominations for its first three seasons, along with SAG, DGA, WGA and PGA nominations. In film, Joy wrote "Reminiscence," her 2021 feature directorial debut starring Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson. Previously, Joy wrote for the Emmy Award–winning show "Pushing Daisies" and was co-producer on the spy series "Burn Notice."

Before becoming an in-demand Hollywood screenwriter, Joy had a career as an entertainment and technology attorney. She was working at McKinsey & Company when she quit to pursue her dream of writing professionally. Joy is a graduate of Harvard Law School­.
