Mack Brown

Mack Brown has served as head football coach at the University of North Carolina since 2019. Prior to that, he coached at the University of Texas (1998-2013), North Carolina (1988-1997) and Tulane (1985-1987). A 2018 National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame inductee, Brown led Texas to a national championship for the 2005 season and a perfect 13-0 season that culminated in a thrilling victory in the Rose Bowl over top-ranked USC, 41-38. That season, he won the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award and was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. Brown is also a member of the Longhorn Hall of Honor, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Rose Bowl Hall of Fame, Tennessee Hall of Fame and Holiday Bowl Hall of Fame.

Brown was the recipient of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award in 2008 and was named Big 12 Coach of the Year again in 2009. The Longhorns under Brown’s leadership captured six Big 12 South Division titles and two Big 12 titles outright. Texas played in 15 bowl games out of Brown’s 16 years at the helm and finished 13 of those years ranked as one of the top 25 teams in the country. In total during his time in Austin, Brown compiled a 158-48 (.767) record.

Prior to his days at Texas, Brown won ACC Coach of the Year honors in 1996 after guiding North Carolina to a 10-2 record, #10 ranking and victory in the Gator Bowl. Prior to that, his coaching resume included stints as an assistant coach at Oklahoma (1984), Appalachian State (1983), LSU (1982), Iowa State (1979-1981), Memphis State (1978), Southern Miss (1975-1977) and Florida State (1973-1974) Brown was born on August 27, 1951 in Cookeville, Tennessee.
