Maia Chaka

Maia Chaka made history as the first Black woman to officiate an NFL game. As only the second woman to be hired as a full-time NFL official, Chaka continues to be an agent for change by devoting her time to the communities that helped nurture her.

Originally from Rochester, New York, Chaka is a multi-faceted, goal-oriented individual with a passion for breaking glass ceilings and being an example for youth worldwide. Her "family first" mentality led to her career in education, focusing on at-risk youth, developing programs, and implementing procedures to increase school attendance and retention rates.

While earning awards and accolades such as Teacher of the Year, Chaka officiated football games at the high school and college level. She was invited to join the NFL’s Mackie Development Program (MDP). MDP officials — the top non-NFL officials in the country — are the first to be considered to fill openings on NFL crews.

Chaka’s story is one of inspiration, motivation, and dedication. She participates in panels, forums, and conversations nationwide to encourage people from all walks of life, while continuing to provide educational enrichment services to economically disadvantaged youth through the non-profit she founded, Make Meaningful Change.
