Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo is an environmental activist and actor known for his portrayal of Bruce Banner in Marvel's The Avengers franchise, as well as his recurring role in the Disney+ series "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." His performances have earned him several awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in the HBO limited series "I Know This Much Is True."

Ruffalo spent his teen years in Virginia Beach, Virginia, graduating from First Colonial High School before moving with his family to Los Angeles. There he studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory and co-founded the Orpheus Theatre Company, writing, directing, and starring in numerous plays. Though he originally struggled to find success as an actor, a chance meeting with writer Kenneth Lonergan led to Ruffalo appearing in several of Lonergan's plays, including the original cast of "This Is Our Youth," which resulted in Ruffalo's role in Longeran's acclaimed 2000 film You Can Count on Me.

Throughout his career, Ruffalo has been recognized for his performances in a variety of films, from romantic comedies like 13 Going on 30 and Just Like Heaven, to thrillers like In the Cut, Zodiac, and Shutter Island. His work in the political drama remake All the King's Men and the crime thriller Collateral earned him recognition, as did his performance in the drama The Normal Heart for which he won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor in a TV Movie. Ruffalo's other noteworthy roles include his portrayal of journalist Michael Rezendes in the film Spotlight, wrestler Dave Schultz in Foxcatcher, and Robert Bilott in Dark Waters, a film he also produced. His performances have garnered him multiple Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and skilled actor.

In 2023, Ruffalo co-starred in the Yorgos Lanthimos film Poor Things which received several nominations from Golden Globes to Academy Awards. In 2024, Ruffalo is set to portray Hieronymous Marshall in the Bong Joon-ho directed science fiction film Mickey 17.

Ruffalo's contributions extend beyond the screen, as he is also known for his environmental activism, particularly his efforts to combat fracking in New York state. He has been an advocate for reproductive rights, supported campaigns and initiatives related to education, clean energy, and environmental issues, and endorsed Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders in the 2016 and 2020 US presidential elections. Ruffalo has also used his platform to voice his views on social and political issues, such as the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
