Marta Segura

Marta Segura serves as both the Chief Heat Officer and Director of Climate Emergency Mobilization for the City of Los Angeles and is one of 10 Chief Heat Officers worldwide. She is a policy thought leader on extreme heat, environmental justice, climate, public health and stakeholder engagement, and has extensive expertise in leading public, philanthropic, private, institutional, and non-profit sectors to design, implement, and drive equitable climate policy promoting healthier and more engaged communities.

Segura is also an Executive Nonprofit Leadership Coach & Consultant for GOLD (Grassroots Organizational Leadership and Development), a community development, public involvement, and political consulting firm which she founded.

Previously, Segura served as the Southern California Climate Engagement Director and was appointed as City Planning Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles. A veteran of the non-profit sector, she also was a program officer for the Flintridge Foundation and the California Endowment. Her first position in the non-profit sector was as a Program Director at the UCLA Center for Labor Research and Education. Later she was hired as the Associate Director for Communities for a Better Environment, where she spearheaded campaign development and fundraising efforts.

Segura holds a Master of Public Health from UCLA’s School of Public Health and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara.
