Matthew Boger is the subject of the Academy Award-nominated short documentary "Facing Fear," which describes the haunting details of a brutal attack he survived in his youth, perpetrated by Neo-Nazi skinheads in a Los Angeles alley. This pivotal experience has given him a dual perspective as both a victim and a proponent of forgiveness and compassion, highlighting the potential for change in everyone.

In early 2005, Boger decided to leave his successful career as a celebrity colorist in Los Angeles to become the Manager of Operations at the Museum of Tolerance. He was driven by a desire to use his voice against hate, representing those who no longer could. It was during his time at the museum that he encountered Timothy Zaal, a former Neo-Nazi skinhead who had once participated in the attack on Boger. This unexpected meeting marked the beginning of their collaborative journey toward forgiveness and reconciliation. Together, they now engage in speaking engagements and educational programs, promoting themes of forgiveness and reconciliation through their program "Unlikely Allies."

Boger's presentations, which utilize "Facing Fear" as a cornerstone, are aimed at diverse audiences including students, law enforcement, educators, juvenile detention centers, and prison inmates. These discussions are designed to provoke thought and dialogue around homelessness, bullying, hate, forgiveness, compassion, and understanding. Furthermore, in 2009, the young adult book "Freaks and Revelations" by Davida Wills Hurwin was inspired by Boger's life story. Since its release, it has garnered significant awards and critical acclaim, serving as another powerful medium through which Boger can influence and inspire his audiences. Through his work, Boger continues to demonstrate the profound impact one can have on society by championing a message of change and forgiveness.
