Mekhi Phifer

Mekhi Phifer is an actor celebrated for his dynamic performances in film and television. Born in Harlem, New York, Phifer's journey into acting began when he attended an open casting call for Spike Lee's film "Clockers." Displaying a rare charisma and intensity that was perfect for the role of Lee's ambitious protagonist, the novice actor beat out nearly 1,000 other applicants for the part. His standout performance as Strike, a young drug dealer caught in a murder investigation, garnered critical acclaim and established him as a promising young actor in Hollywood.

Phifer's career quickly gained momentum with a variety of film roles that showcased his versatility. He starred opposite Eminem in the critically acclaimed "8 Mile" and also appeared in the slasher "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer." Numerous big screen roles over the years ensued, including the popular YA film "Divergent" and its sequels. His latest movie, the action thriller "Lights Out," was released in 2024.

On television, Phifer's early career started with recurring roles on "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "New York Undercover" before he joined the cast of the long-running medical drama "ER" as Dr. Gregory Pratt. During his six years on the show, he was nominated twice for an NAACP Image Award. Phifer was a recurring cast member on the Showtime drama "House of Lies"; starred as CIA officer Rex Matheson in the British sci-fi program "Torchwood: Miracle Day"; was a main cast member of the CW's "Frequency"; played a former detective in AppleTV+'s legal crime/drama "Truth Be Told"; and starred as Harold Brooks in Hulu's teen drama "Love, Victor," among a slew of other appearances. Phifer is also known for his appearance in the music video for "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy and Monica.
