Micky Lawler

Micky Lawler was the President of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) from 2015 to 2023 after serving on the organization's board of directors for the prior 11 years. As head of the WTA, Lawler brought close to three decades of sports and entertainment expertise to the role, overseeing an organization representing more than 1,600 athletes across 85 countries and hosting more than 50 annual events and four Grand Slam tournaments.

Throughout her career, Micky Lawler demonstrated a keen understanding of the complexities and challenges within the sports industry. Her commitment to gender equality and her efforts to empower female athletes have garnered her respect within the tennis community. She is credited with expanding the WTA Tour in China and Asia more broadly, an expansion that has included forging broadcast deals, setting record prize money, and creating new tennis events. Under her leadership, the WTA collaborated with Netflix to create the tennis docuseries "Break Point." The series provides a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of top tennis players as they travel across the globe for all four Grand Slams and the ATP and WTA tours.

Prior to being named President of the WTA, Lawler was Managing Director, Tennis and Global Initiatives of the sports agency Octagon, which she joined as one of the first female tennis agents. Lawler began her sports career in communications at the Men's International Professional Tennis Council, the predecessor to the ATP World Tour.

Born in Holland, Lawler earned a BA in Political Science from The American University of Paris and a Master's in Applied Linguistics from the University of Delaware. Forbes magazine named her to the "50 Over 50" list in 2023 and has received many other honors for her commitment to women's sports.
