Mike Africa, Jr.

Mike Africa Jr. is a member of The MOVE Organization and the co-founder of the Black Philly Radical Collective. He is a motivational resilience speaker renowned for his dynamic stage performances that blend music with his speeches. Born in a Philadelphia prison where his parents were both sentenced to 100 years, Mike was secretly taken from his mother and placed in an orphanage. He endured physical and mental abuse for 11 days before being rescued by his aunt. At age 6, he witnessed the aftermath of a police bomb dropped on his family's home, which killed his uncle, cousin, and nine other MOVE family members, including five children he had briefly known during his time in the orphanage.

At the age of 13, Mike began using his music to raise awareness and seek justice for his family. His efforts culminated in the release of his mother on June 16, 2018, after she served 40 years, followed by the release of his father four months later, on October 23, 2018. Mike's dedication to advocacy and social justice extends to his role as a speaker, where he travels globally to share his story and inspire others with his powerful message, "Never Give Up."

Mike Africa Jr. launched the "Mike Africa Junior Information Company" (MAJIC) in May 2019, which is an entertainment brand focusing on educational content. He also created and presents "40 YEARS A PRISONER," a detailed account of his tumultuous life journey, including the traumatic bombing of his family's home. His public presence is marked by his participation in events such as "Moving Forward: A Conversation with Debbie Africa, Mike Africa Sr., and Mike Africa Jr.," demonstrating his ongoing commitment to promoting dialogue and understanding on issues like mass incarceration and police brutality. Mike continues to share stages with influential figures such as Marc Lamont Hill, Tarana Burke, and Danny Glover, addressing critical issues of our time and fostering a spirit of resilience and reform.
