Mike Feinberg

Dr. Mike Feinberg is the Co-Founder of the KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Foundation and the Superintendent of KIPP Houston, which encompasses 18 public charter schools. He also holds the position of president at Texas School Venture Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding the number and scope of exemplary schools.

Previously, Feinberg served as the Executive Vice Chair of KIPP Houston Public Schools, which is part of a national network of 209 high-performing public charter schools that collectively educate nearly 90,000 students. In Houston, the largest region in the network, KIPP operates 28 public schools from PreK through 12th grade, serving nearly 15,000 children. To date, 89% of the KIPPsters who have graduated from KIPP Houston middle schools have pursued higher education.

Feinberg earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991 and a Master’s of Education from National-Louis University in 2005. In addition to his honorary doctorate from Yale University in 2010, he received another from Duke University in 2015. His achievements have earned him several accolades, including the Thomas B. Fordham Prize for Excellence in Education and the National Jefferson Award for Greatest Public Service by a Private Citizen, both in 2006. In 2008, he and co-founder Dave Levin were named to the list of "America's Best Leaders" by US News & World Report and received the Presidential Citizens Medal. Furthermore, in 2009, they were honored with the Charles Bronfman Prize and the William E. Simon Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Social Entrepreneurship. Feinberg was also recognized as an Ashoka Fellow in 2004, highlighting his impact as a social entrepreneur. His work has been featured in major media outlets including The Oprah Show, CBS 60 Minutes, and The New York Times.
