Peter Attia

Dr. Peter Attia is the founder of Attia Medical, PC, a medical practice with offices in San Diego and New York City, focusing on the applied science of longevity and optimal performance. In addition to his role at Attia Medical, he is the co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of the fasting app Zero and the co-founder and former president of the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI).

The world is grappling with a severe obesity epidemic, but Attia argues that the current approach may be misguided. With a focus on underlying causes rather than symptoms, he is at the forefront of redefining our understanding of obesity and diabetes. His medical practice employs a comprehensive approach that includes nutritional biochemistry, exercise physiology, sleep physiology, techniques to increase distress tolerance, lipidology, pharmacology, and four-system endocrinology to both increase lifespan—by delaying the onset of chronic diseases—and improve health span—the quality of life.

Attia trained for five years at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in general surgery, where he earned several prestigious awards, including resident of the year, and was the author of a comprehensive review of general surgery. He spent two additional years at the National Institutes of Health as a surgical oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute, focusing on immune-based therapies for melanoma. Attia has been mentored by leading lipidologists, endocrinologists, gynecologists, sleep physiologists, and longevity scientists in both the United States and Canada.

He hosts "The Peter Attia Drive" podcast, featuring in-depth interviews with experts from various fields, especially medicine, to promote knowledge about longevity and health span improvements. Dr. Attia received his M.D. from Stanford University and holds a BS in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics. He is licensed to practice medicine in California and New York. Through his blog, The Eating Academy, and global lectures, he continues to educate and challenge conventional wisdom on health, diet, and chronic diseases.
