Peter Gammons

Peter Gammons is a Hall of Fame baseball writer and an on-air analyst for MLB Network. He began his journalism career at The Boston Globe in 1969, where he introduced a weekly Sunday baseball notes column. Over his extensive career, he has also worked for ESPN as a baseball analyst and contributed to ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com from 1988 until 2009. Additionally, Gammons covered the NHL, college basketball, and Major League Baseball for Sports Illustrated during two periods, from 1976 to 1978 and from 1986 to 1990.

At MLB Network, Gammons provides analysis and commentary on breaking news and special events in baseball, including the National Baseball Hall of Fame election announcement and the MLB Trade Deadline. He is featured on "Hot Stove" during the offseason and "MLB Tonight" during the regular season, contributes to "30 Clubs in 30 Days," and produces short documentary-style pieces for the network. Previously, he was a columnist for MLB.com from 2009 to 2012, and his tenure at ESPN included serving as a studio analyst on Baseball Tonight, where he delivered "Diamond Notes," his regular reports during the baseball season for SportsCenter.

Gammons has received numerous accolades for his work, including the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for outstanding baseball writing in 2005 and being named National Sportswriter of the Year in 1989, 1990, and 1993 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. He was also awarded an honorary Poynter Fellow from Yale University. Gammons continues to contribute to Baseball America and is the author of "Beyond the Sixth Game," which explores the impact of free agency in baseball.
