Philipp Hildebrand

Philipp Hildebrand is currently Vice Chairman of BlackRock Inc. He previously served as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank from 2010 to 2012, where he was a strong advocate for the bank’s policy of capping the franc against the euro. Additionally, he was one of the first western central bankers to publicly demand tougher capital standards for banks in 2007, before the Lehman Brothers crisis in 2008. During the financial crisis, Hildebrand played a significant international role as a member of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and as the Swiss Governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In recognition of his leadership and expertise, Hildebrand was named Central Banker of the Year, Europe in 2011 by The Banker. He has also held significant roles in the private sector, including Chief Investment Officer of a Swiss private bank and partner at Moore Capital Management in London. Between 2006 and 2009, he served on the Strategic Committee of the French Debt Management Office. His professional career began at the World Economic Forum in Geneva.

Hildebrand is a member of the Group of Thirty (G30) and was appointed Vice Chairman of the FSB by G20 leaders in November 2011. He is an Honorary Fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford, and maintains academic connections as a Senior Visiting Fellow at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government, where he also sits on the International Advisory Board. Hildebrand is fluent in English, German, and French, which enhances his ability to communicate and collaborate internationally.
