Rebecca Meyers Biography
Rebecca Meyers is a 3x Paralympic Gold Medalist, World Record Holder, 6x Paralympic Medalist, and 2x ESPY Award Winner. At only 22 years old, Rebecca Meyers is already a multiple-world record holder and has won three Paralympic titles and 10 medals at World Championships.
But Meyers’ best performance so far came in 2016, when she sealed her first three Paralympic titles in Rio, as well as a silver medal, setting two world records along the way. Meyers began to swim in 2000 at age six in Baltimore, Maryland. Because she has Usher syndrome, Meyers has balance issues, progressive blindness, and has been deaf since she was born. Since she was young, she has used a cochlear implant, an electronic device that allows her to hear. At the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, she was the only deaf athlete on the U.S. Paralympic swim team.
Daughter of Wade Mark Meyers and Maria Dachille Meyers, she has a brother, Timothy, and a sister, Elizabeth. Her seeing-eye dog is named Birdie. Hobbies include reading, traveling, baking cupcakes, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.
