Rose Marcario

After a successful 12-year stint at Patagonia, culminating in her role as CEO, Rose Marcario transitioned from the outdoor apparel industry to become a founding partner at ReGen Ventures in 2020. Alongside former investment banker and hedge fund manager Dan Fitzgerald, she has endeavored to enhance investment in regenerative technologies, recognizing that mere sustainability isn't sufficient and industries must actively cooperate with nature.

Marcario's leadership at Patagonia was marked by strong activism and a commitment to environmental and social causes. Under Marcario, Patagonia pledged to resist the order to reduce the size of national monuments and actively participated in public campaigns to defend areas like Bears Ears National Monument. This included innovative approaches such as the use of 360-video. Furthermore, Marcario was pivotal in promoting family-friendly work policies. It was under her guidance that 100% of Patagonia's working mothers returned to work after childbirth. She also inaugurated an on-site childcare facility at Patagonia's distribution center in Reno, Nevada.

Since stepping down from her role at Patagonia on June 12, 2020, Marcario has continued to engage in impactful projects. In addition to her work with ReGen Ventures, she has joined the boards of electric vehicle company Rivian and plant-based protein company Meati, recognizing their potential to make significant strides toward reducing emissions. Aside from her corporate ventures, Marcario is a founding governing board member of The Society To Protect Underground Networks, an NGO dedicated to preserving mycorrhizal networks vital to Earth’s climate and ecosystems. Her ongoing contributions to industry and the environment have been recognized in the 2021 and 2022 Fast Company Queer 50 lists.

Before joining Patagonia as CFO in 2008, Marcario had an established career in finance, heading up M&A at a West Coast investment firm, acting as CFO of Apple spin-off General Magic, and moving into private equity. With her experience at Patagonia, her ongoing work with ReGen Ventures, and her board memberships, Marcario continues to demonstrate her commitment to impactful business and environmental stewardship.
