Samuel Sinyangwe

Samuel Sinyangwe is a racial justice activist, data scientist, and policy analyst. He is a member of the Movement for Black Lives and a co-founder of "Mapping Police Violence," a comprehensive database of police violence in the U.S. He also co-founded "Campaign Zero," which aims to provide data-driven policy solutions to end police violence in America.

Sinyangwe connected with activists DeRay Mckesson and Johnetta Elzie following the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Together, they developed "Mapping Police Violence" and "Campaign Zero." His engagement with these projects has included discussions on policy solutions with political figures, including meetings with Democratic candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton during the 2016 U.S. Presidential campaign. He has actively countered the "Ferguson Effect" theory using robust data to challenge the associated narratives.

Sinyangwe's work has earned him a place in Forbes 30 under 30 and The Root 100, recognizing his significant contributions to social justice and data advocacy. His insights have been featured across major media outlets including CNN, MSNBC, BBC News, The Los Angeles Times, and he has contributed writings to the Huffington Post and The Guardian. Before his activism, he worked at PolicyLink, assisting a network of 61 Promise Neighborhoods communities to enhance support systems for low-income families. He graduated from Stanford University in 2012, where he focused on the impacts of race and racism on the U.S. political system.
