Sarah Moshman

Sarah Moshman believes in the power of storytelling to change the world.

Moshman is an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and TEDx speaker whose work has been featured on platforms like Upworthy, Marie Claire, PBS, Hulu, CNN, Netflix, and Good Morning America. After directing two short documentaries focused on female empowerment in young women, "Girls Rock! Chicago" (2010) and "Growing up Strong: Girls on the Run" (2012), she directed her first feature documentary, "The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things" (2014). This film has been screened over 700 times globally in schools, groups, organizations, and corporations, igniting conversations about gender equality.

Her second feature documentary, "Losing Sight of Shore," follows the incredible journey of four women who rowed across the Pacific Ocean. The film was released globally in 190 countries on Netflix in May 2017. "Nevertheless," Moshman’s third feature documentary, explores the sexual harassment crisis in the wake of the #MeToo and Time's Up movements, leveraging cinema for social change. Additionally, Moshman directed the award-winning short fiction film "Unbound" about the first mother to go to space starring Lauren Lapkus (Orange is the New Black). In 2022, "Unbound" won First Place at NASA’s CineSpace Global Short Film Competition and is set to screen on the International Space Station.

Before her focus on documentaries, Moshman worked as a field producer on the hit ABC show "Dancing with the Stars" for 10 seasons, among other shows on NBC, MTV, Lifetime, Bravo, and the Food Network. She frequently contributes as a story producer for premium doc series on networks like A&E, HBO, and Showtime and directs branded content for clients including EllenTube, Tastemade, Mattel, AT&T, and Samsung.

An inspiring public speaker and author of "Empowered Filmmaking: How To Make a Documentary On Your Own Terms," Moshman is also an adjunct professor in documentary film. She is passionate about empowering the next generation of storytellers and dedicated to creating films that uplift, inform, and inspire while showcasing strong female role models on screen.

Moshman is based in LA and is a mother to two children, a 5-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.
