Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver began her career with a minor role in "Annie Hall" in 1977, but she gained significant recognition for her portrayal of Ellen Ripley in the iconic "Alien" series, starting with "Alien" in 1979. Her compelling performance in this role set a precedent for her career, leading to her film debut being inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Weaver's talent was further recognized when she received an Academy Award nomination for "Aliens" in 1986, and her roles in "Working Girl" and "Gorillas in the Mist" in 1988 earned her twin Oscar nominations.

Weaver's diverse filmography includes starring roles in the "Ghostbusters" series and acclaimed films like "The Year of Living Dangerously". She also starred in "A Map of the World" and "Galaxy Quest," both released in 1999. In addition to her on-screen roles, Weaver has appeared in independent films and on stage, including performances in "Hurlyburly" and "Sex and Longing". She received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in "Hurlyburly". Her continuation in theater led her back to Broadway in the play "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike," which won the Tony Award for Best Play.

Recently, Weaver reprised her role as Dr. Grace Augustine / Kiri in the "Avatar" film series, and starred in the drama miniseries "The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart", for which she also served as executive producer. In recognition of her enduring contributions to film and television, she received the International Goya Award in 2024. She is also set to make her West End debut in 2025 as Prospero in "The Tempest" at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Throughout her career, Weaver has been honored with three Academy Award nominations, a Grammy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and a star on the Walk of Fame, awarded in 1999. She resides in New York City.
