Siobhan Wescott Biography
Siobhan Wescott became the first endowed professor and director of American Indian health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s (UNMC) College of Public Health where she also is an associate professor in the Department of Health Promotion. She leads the college's Nebraska HEALING Project, which stands for Nebraska Health, Education, Advocacy and Leadership across Indigenous and Native Generations, fighting to reverse years of long-standing neglect and promote the healing of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
Prior to joining UNMC in 2021, Dr. Wescott, who is Alaskan Athabaskan, co-directed a University of North Dakota program that has trained more than 250 Native American physicians and worked at the national level with the American Medical Association to help create a Task Force on Health Equity. Earlier, she was an assistant professor in the Department of Public Health at the North Dakota State University and an associate scientist and senior consultant at Sanford Research and the University of South Dakota.
