Sonequa Martin-Green

Sonequa Martin-Green is an actress and producer who stars in the lead role of Michael Burnham, lieutenant commander of the USS Discovery, in the sci-fi television series "Star Trek: Discovery" -- a historic role as the first black female Starfleet captain in the franchise. Best known for her television role as Sasha Williams on AMC's award-winning series "The Walking Dead," Martin-Green appeared in recurring roles on CBS’ Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning drama, "The Good Wife," ABC's "Once Upon a Time" and FOX's "New Girl." She has also had various guest roles in shows such as "Law and Order: Criminal Intent," "Army Wives" and "Gossip Girl."

Martin-Green stars opposite Ed Harris in the dark comedy "My Dead Friend Zoe," a film on which she also served as an executive producer. Previously, she starred in "Space Jam: A New Legacy" alongside LeBron James and Don Cheadle. She also starred opposite Oscar-nominee Brian Tyree Henry in "Outside Story," a Brooklyn based indie comedy-drama. She received rave reviews for her starring role in Emily Abt's Sundance hit "Toe To Toe" and was also featured in Victoria Mahoney's film "Yelling to the Sky" alongside Gabourey Sidibe and Zoe Kravitz.

On stage, Martin-Green is best known for her critically acclaimed performances in Des McAnuff’s "Fetch Clay Make Man," where she starred as Muhammad Ali's first wife. She also starred in Off-Broadway’s "Outside People" at New York City’s Vineyard Theatre.

A graduate of the University of Alabama, Martin-Green has been an ambassador for Stand Up to Cancer since 2016.
