Susan Frampton

For over three decades, Dr. Susan Frampton has been the president of Planetree International, a non-profit advocacy and membership organization focused on person-centered models of care in healthcare. She has authored numerous publications, including "Putting Patients First" (Jossey-Bass 2004, 2008, 2013), which won the ACHE Hamilton Book of the Year Award in 2004. Her latest contribution is "The Putting Patients First Field Guide: Global Lessons in Designing and Implementing Patient-Centered Care," a comprehensive guide on integrating patient-centered culture in healthcare systems globally. She has also contributed a chapter to "Providing Compassionate Health Care" (Routledge, 2014).

In 2013, Frampton was appointed co-chair of the National Priorities Partnership, a collaborative aimed at improving U.S. healthcare. She has held multiple leadership roles, including chairing the National Quality Forum’s National Quality Partners Leadership Consortium and co-chairing their Action Teams on Advanced Illness Care, Patient-Family Engagement, and Decreasing Hospital (Re)Admissions. Her influence extends internationally as she serves on the Governing Board for the WHO-CC International Network of Health Promoting Hospitals and on the editorial board for the Journal of Compassionate Healthcare.

Dr. Frampton speaks globally on topics such as culture change, quality, safety, and the patient experience in healthcare. Her presentations often explore the linkage between patient experience and employee experience in healthcare, providing strategies for creating supportive work environments for caregivers. Her expertise is also recognized in her role as a lead author on the National Academy of Medicine’s publication "Harnessing Evidence and Experience to Change Culture," released in early 2017. In addition to her extensive publication record and speaking engagements, Frampton continues to promote patient-centered care and emphasize the importance of compassion in healthcare settings. In 2009, she was named one of “20 People who Make Healthcare Better” by HealthLeaders magazine.
