Teresa Weatherspoon

Teresa Weatherspoon served as the head coach of the Chicago Sky in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) for the 2024 season. Her journey in basketball began at Louisiana Tech, where she led the Lady Techsters to the NCAA national title in 1988. Weatherspoon's prowess on the court continued to shine as she embarked on an international career, playing in Italy, France, and Russia for eight years post-college.

In 1997, Weatherspoon joined the New York Liberty in the WNBA's inaugural season, a testament to her stature in the sport. She also played for the Los Angeles Sparks, and her WNBA career was marked by multiple accolades. She was the first player in WNBA history to record double-digit assists in a game and won the Defensive Player of the Year Award multiple times. Furthermore, Weatherspoon appeared in the All-Star Team annually from 2000 to 2003, and she started in all 220 games she played from 1997 to 2003.

Post-retirement in 2004, Weatherspoon transitioned into coaching, leading teams such as the Westchester Phantoms of the American Basketball Association and the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech. Her coaching prowess was recognized when she was named the Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year in 2010. Additionally, she served as a two-way player development coach for the New Orleans Pelicans before being promoted to a full-time assistant coach. Her contributions to the sport have been widely recognized, resulting in her induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
