Tessa’s work focuses on chronic illness, disability, and health justice. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Self, Medium, Health, Refinery 29, Wired, and The Daily Beast, among others. She was the Contributions Editor at Lifehacker and the Technology & Health Editor at The Daily Beast.
Her debut book “What Doesn’t Kill You: A Life with Chronic Illness—Lessons from a Body in Revolt” will be published on February 2, 2021 via Henry Holt and is available for pre-order now. “What Doesn’t Kill You” is part memoir about Tessa’s life with an incurable disease, and part guide for newly diagnosed chronic illness patients and their families.
Tessa was born in Idaho and grew up in Oregon, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois. She’s a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
Tessa has lived in New York City for ten years and resides in Brooklyn with her husband, who’s a public service law student at CUNY Law, and their four (yes, four) dogs: Gixer, Lady, Fievel, and Dolly.
