Tim Gardner

Tim Gardner is a distinguished sommelier celebrated for his deep knowledge of wine and exceptional palate. Known for his unpretentious yet profound approach to wine, Gardner has made significant contributions to the wine community through his expertise and passion for oenology. In 2024, he was the recipient of the James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program for Lula Drake, his wine bar and bottle shop located in Columbia, SC. He was also a James Beard nominee in 2023 for hospitality.

Gardner "fell for the grape" while in grad school at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he received his MFA at its School of Theatre Film and Television. He later trained as a CSW, Certified Sommelier, and following years of study and travel, received his diploma from The International Sommelier Guild. He spent several years blending Spanish wines for a US import company.

His selections are known for their balance, depth, and representation of both classic and emerging wine regions.
