Timothy Busfield

Timothy Busfield is an American actor and director who has made his mark in both television and film. Busfield is known for his roles in the television series "thirtysomething," "Field of Dreams," "Revenge of the Nerds," and "The West Wing." In 1991, Busfield received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work in "thirtysomething." Busfield's other notable works include the medical drama "Trapper John, M.D." from 1984 to 1986 and a lead role in the Broadway production of "A Few Good Men" in 1990, replacing Tom Hulce. Busfield also has a strong directorial hand, leading episodes of various TV series, including "thirtysomething," "Sports Night," "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," "Las Vegas," "Damages," and "Ed." Moreover, he directed the film "Guest Artist" in 2019, which premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Busfield is the founder of Theatre for Children, Inc., a non-profit arts organization. He was also the Producing Director for Theatre for Children, Inc. (Fantasy Theatre) from 1986 to 2001. Busfield's theatre credits include various roles in The Green Mountain Guild Theatre for Children, Thidwick The Big Hearted Moose, A Christmas Carol, and more. Busfield also studied drama at East Tennessee State University and traveled with the Actors Theater of Louisville. Later, Busfield joined the Circle Repertory Company in New York City for their production of Lanford Wilson's "Talley and Son."

Busfield's diverse career also includes voice work, taking on the title character in the radio drama podcast series "Marvel's Wastelanders: Star-Lord." Busfield also served an academic stint as an artist in residence at Michigan State University during the 2016-17 academic year, where he was involved in teaching and mentoring students. In 2024, Busfield was inducted into the Sacramento Baseball Hall of Fame as a pitcher. Busfield is married to actress Melissa Gilbert and currently resides in New York City.
