Tony Bingham

Led by President and CEO Tony Bingham, the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) stands as a pivotal entity in the landscape of learning and workforce development.

As the world's largest professional association dedicated to the training and development field, ASTD offers programs and services designed to enhance individual and organizational performance through learning. With 125 chapters in the United States and 20 international partners, ASTD facilitates global and regional networking and professional growth opportunities for its members.

Tony Bingham is the co-author of "The New Social Learning," published in 2010, which provides insights and case studies on transforming learning through social media. His earlier work, "Presenting Learning," co-authored with Tony Jeary in 2007, guides learning professionals on articulating the business case for learning effectively, positioning themselves as strategic partners, and demonstrating the impact of learning on business outcomes.

Supported by a Board of Directors, a staff of 90, and a broad volunteer network, Bingham focuses on enabling members to lead talent management initiatives, enhance their business skills, leverage social media for informal learning, bridge skills gaps, and align their activities with the strategic priorities of their businesses. ASTD's influence and research are often highlighted in top-tier business publications such as BusinessWeek, the Financial Times, and The Wall Street Journal.

In 2009, under Bingham's leadership, ASTD broadened its scope through the acquisition of The Bureaucrat, Inc., its quarterly journal "The Public Manager," and the United Professional Sales Association (UPSA). These acquisitions have allowed ASTD to emphasize the importance of learning in the public sector and the professional sales field. Bingham joined ASTD in 2001 as the Chief Operating Officer / Chief Information Officer and was appointed President and CEO in February 2004.
