Val Chmerkovskiy

Valentin “Val” Chmerkovskiy was born in Ukraine, immigrated to the United States at the age of eight, and grew up in Brooklyn. He is the first American to have won two IDSF World Championships, fourteen-time US National Champion, a classically trained violinist, and a mentor in several inner-city public schools.

Chmerkovskiy is a cofounder and creative director at Dance with Me Studios, a national chain of dance studios, two-time Dancing with the Stars champion and author of National Bestseller, “I'll Never Change My Name.” Married to professional dancer and health + wellness expert, Jenna Johnson, and most recently father to son, Rome.

Chmerkovskiy invites fans into his life as never before, sharing the experiences, including the failures and successes, that have shaped him, from his early childhood in Ukraine to growing up as an immigrant in the U.S. to his rise to international fame.

Chmerkovskiy has started a Humanitarian Aid Fund, Baranova27, with his father and brother. They have shipped over 140 tons of aid to date along with raising money to build residential units for the citizens of Ukraine.
