Val Kilmer

Val Kilmer caught the acting bug early as the Kilmer boys often spent their summer vacations entertaining visitors of the guest ranch his parents once owned in Arizona. After filming his first TV commercial at age 12 for a fast food company, Val pursued his acting dream, first at Chatsworth High School (with fellow classmates Kevin Spacey & Mare Winningham), then for a senior year at the Hollywood Professional School. He completed his formal training at the Juilliard School of Performing Arts, where, at age 17, Kilmer became the youngest student ever admitted to the Drama department at that time. While at Juilliard, he further honed his skills by participating in the production and writing of "How It All Began," performed at the Public Theatre at the New York Shakespeare Festival.

After spending some time perfecting his skills on the New York stages with notable performances in "How It All Began" and "The Slab Boys" (with future stars Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon), Kilmer's film career took off with his first role in the comedy spoof "Top Secret!" in 1984. The next few years brought roles in 1986's "Top Gun" and 1988's "Willow," making him a recognized name in Hollywood. His portrayal of Jim Morrison in "The Doors" and Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" further established his reputation as a versatile actor.

Other notable performances include "Real Genius," "Batman Forever," and "The Saint." Kilmer has also been involved in production, exemplified by his work on the film "Cinema Twain," the film version of his one-man show "Citizen Twain." He has published a volume of poetry titled "My Edens After Burns," and has taken up painting, with his works displayed in art galleries and pop-up shops nationwide. Kilmer's contributions to the arts were recognized when he was awarded an honorary doctorate of Fine Arts from William Woods University in 2012.

Kilmer continues to be involved both in film and on stage, and is set to appear in the highly anticipated sequel to "Top Gun." He has also shared insights from his career and personal journey, including his battle and recovery from throat cancer, in his public talks. His faith as a devout Christian Scientist also plays a significant role in his life. Kilmer remains active in community and environmental efforts, such as his involvement with the New Mexico Film Commission and his work as a UNESCO Ambassador.
