Wes Moss

Wes Moss is a man on a mission. The Atlanta-based Certified Financial Planner™ and money educator has devoted his professional life to helping Americans understand how they can retire sooner than they think.

Moss is a managing partner in Capital Investment Advisors (CIA), a fee-only investment firm which has over $2.8 billion assets under management (AUM as of 12/31/2019). As the company’s Chief Investment Strategist, he leads a team of financial advisors who share a passion for helping people retire sooner and happier. This team works to assist the thousands of CIA clients who are trying to realize that dream.

A passionate financial educator and evangelist, Moss uses every available media platform to teach readers, listeners and viewers how they too can retire on their own terms. He is the author of three books, including "You Can Retire Sooner Than You Think"; the host of Money Matters, a weekly radio call-in show; a columnist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution; editor of WesMoss.com; and a guest on the cable news channels.

Much of Wes Moss’ select retirement planning philosophy is based on his extensive research for "You Can Retire Sooner Than You Think". His survey of over a thousand of retirees with varying degrees of happiness revealed that a happy retirement is entirely possible without amassing the huge seven-figure nest eggs.

The research project also showed that it takes more than sufficient savings to ensure a fulfilling retirement. The happiest retirees know in advance how they want to spend their golden years (and retirement money). They also have several core pursuits – hobbies and activities that engage their minds and keep them socially active in their post-career years.

As for building and managing retirement savings, Moss is a believer in income investing. An income portfolio consists of assets that spin off regular cash payments in the form of dividends, interest and distributions. During the investor’s wealth-building years that income stream is reinvested in the portfolio to accelerate its growth. In retirement, those payments can be directed into the investor’s bank account as a sort of paycheck to help meet monthly expenses.

Moss’ accomplishments have earned him national recognition. Barron’s has named him one of America’s top 1,200 Financial Advisors each year since 2014. In 2019, 2020 and 2021 Barron’s also named him a top 100 Independent Financial Advisor in America. He was also named as one of the country’s top 40 investment advisors under 40 by Investment News in 2014.

Before joining CIA, Moss worked for UBS Financial Services in its Atlanta office. He holds a degree in economics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Wes Moss lives in Atlanta with his wife Lynn and their four boys. He is an avid golfer and enjoys coaching his boys’ lacrosse teams.
