Will Arbery

Will Arbery is a playwright, TV/film writer, and filmmaker from Texas and Wyoming, with seven sisters. His plays include "Corsicana," "Heroes of the Fourth Turning," "Plano," "Evanston Salt Costs Climbing," "Wheelchair," and "You Hateful Things." He is currently under commission from Audible, Manhattan Theatre Club, and Playwrights Horizons.

In television and film, Arbery is developing TV series with A24/HBO, Littlefield Co./Touchstone, Endeavor Content, and Hulu. He has film projects with BBC Films/A24, Animal Kingdom, and Sight Unseen, and is a writer for HBO's "Succession."

Arbery's awards include being a Pulitzer Prize finalist for "Heroes of the Fourth Turning," the Whiting Award for Drama, the Obie Award for Playwriting, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Play, the Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Playwriting Award, the Tow Foundation Grant, the Edes Prize for Emerging Artists, and the Stage Raw Award for Best Playwriting for "The Mongoose."

He is a member and alum of New Dramatists, P73's I-73, EST/Youngblood, The Working Farm at SPACE on Ryder Farm, and Clubbed Thumb's Early Career Writers Group, and Colt Coeur.

Arbery has been featured in The New York Times, The Paris Review, BOMB Magazine, Vox, Politico, American Theatre, Brooklyn Rail, NPR, Vanity Fair, On Point, Upstage Left, Know Your Enemy, MUSEUM, The Subtext, America Magazine, HowlRound, Dallas Morning News, Texas Monthly, Wyoming Public Media, The Brian Lehrer Show, Patheos, Jesuitical, The Antenna Method, and The Wicked Stage. While in graduate school, he was named one of Variety’s “110 Students to Watch.”

In dance, his work has been featured at Steppenwolf, Pioneer Works, The Watermill Center, and MCA Chicago, and on Desus & Mero and Creators Project.

Arbery holds an MFA in Writing for the Screen and Stage from Northwestern University and a BA in English and Drama from Kenyon College.
