William J. Bratton

During a 46-year career in law enforcement, Commissioner William J. Bratton instituted progressive change while leading multiple police departments. He served as the Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department for seven years and as the Police Commissioner of New York City in two nonconsecutive terms, alongside his tenure as Commissioner of the Boston Police Department from 1993 to 1994. He is the only person ever to lead the police agencies of America’s two largest cities.

As the Executive Chairman of Teneo Risk, Bratton advises clients on risk identification, prevention, and response. Teneo addresses key areas including cyber risk management, counterterrorism, crisis anticipation, critical infrastructure, and health crisis advisory services. He also serves as the Vice Chairman for the Secretary of Homeland Security’s Advisory Council, reflecting his ongoing commitment to national security.

Prior to his role at Teneo, Bratton was the 42nd police commissioner of the City of New York from January 2014 to September 2016. During this period, he oversaw 32 months of declining crime rates, achieving historic lows in murders and robberies. He spearheaded the NYPD's Mobile Digital Initiative, equipping officers with smartphones and patrol cars with tablets. Bratton also enhanced the NYPD’s counterterrorism efforts by developing the Critical Response Command (CRC) and the Strategic Response Group (SRG). Earlier, in the 1990s, he established an international reputation for re-engineering police departments and fighting crime in Boston and New York. As Los Angeles Police Chief from 2002 to 2009, he achieved historically low crime levels and greatly improved community relations. Bratton has authored books including "The Profession," "Turnaround: How America’s Top Cop Reversed the Crime Epidemic," and co-authored "Collaborate or Perish!" with Harvard fellow Zachary Tumin, offering insights into effective leadership and the importance of collaboration across various sectors. He has been honored with the title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) and recognized for his significant impact on law enforcement practices worldwide.
