Zoe Weil

Zoe Weil is the co-founder and president of the Institute for Humane Education (IHE), and is recognized as a pioneer in the comprehensive humane education movement. Zoe created IHE’s M.Ed., M.A., and graduate certificate programs, as well as the institute's acclaimed workshops and courses. Under her leadership, IHE’s focus has expanded to include online programs and a wide array of educational tools aimed at cultivating a sustainable and compassionate future.

Zoe is the author of seven books, including "The World Becomes What We Teach: Educating a Generation of Solutionaries" (2016), Nautilus Silver Medal–winner "Most Good, Least Harm: A Simple Principle for a Better World and Meaningful Life" (2009), and two books for young readers, including Moonbeam Gold Medal-winner "Claude and Medea" (2007). She has been featured in publications such as Forbes, O Magazine, and Edutopia, and appeared in the documentary "8 Billion Angels." Her insights have also reached audiences through various media, including radio, podcasts, and TV.

Zoe gave her first TEDx talk titled "The World Becomes What You Teach" in 2010, which swiftly became one of the top-rated TEDx talks, and she has delivered five additional TEDx talks since then. She continues to speak at universities, conferences, and schools, and collaborates with educational institutions to transform curricula and pedagogy. Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including the Women in Environmental Leadership award from Unity College in 2012 and recognition as one of Maine Magazine’s 50 independent leaders in 2017. Zoe also received acknowledgment from Good Housekeeping in 2016 as a groundbreaker influencing the world.

Zoe holds master’s degrees in theological studies from Harvard Divinity School and in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also certified in psychosynthesis counseling. Zoe and her husband, along with several rescued animals, reside next to the Institute for Humane Education in Surry, Maine, embodying the principles she champions through her work and writings.
